A one-day conference geared towards the more seasoned and established KU leaders. At the Student Leadership Institute (SLI), participants explore, in greater depth, various leadership theories, styles, models, topics and best practices. In addition, students enhance their communication techniques and expand their network of fellow KU leaders.

The SLI is designed for established student leaders who, by their skills, abilities, willingness, experience, and positions, have emerged among their peers as some of KU's most effective and engaged student leaders. Participants will have the opportunity to take personal leadership inventories to learn more about their individual style while being exposed to a variety of newer leadership theories and practices. What makes this program unique is that the day celebrates and is focused on you, the student leader, and how to best assist you in your leadership roles.

Program Objectives:

1. Participants will leave with enhanced knowledge and pragmatic practices/formulas for success in the following:

  • Burnout.
  • Holding peers accountable.
  • Conflict resolution and how to work with "sniper" members.
  • Understanding how to motivate individual members.
  • Personal reflection of leadership styles and identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Developing a vision for organization identifying where they would like group to go.
  • Identifying what each participant would like for his or her personal legacy to be.

2. Participants will leave having established new awareness of various campus leaders and be more aware of potential collaborative opportunities.

3. Participants will gain in-depth experience in current leadership theories and models that will enhance their leadership ability when put into practice.

4. Participants will leave rejuvenated, refreshed, and energized for continuing in their leadership roles.
