Prior to being named Director in 2004, Rueben served as Coordinator for KU LEAD (Leadership Education & Development) for four years. Orignially from Topeka, Rueben has a B.S. degree in Sociology and an M.S. in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Student Personnel Administration from Emporia State University. Rueben served as the Director of Student Activities, Organizations & Special Events at Emporia State, Greek Advisor for Washington University in St. Louis, and as Director of HIV Prevention Services for the Kansas City Free Health Clinic. Rueben also serves as a Lead Facilitator for LeaderShape, Inc.

Besides overseeing the direction of the Student Involvement area, Rueben also works with the LeaderShape Institute, Blueprints Leadership Conference, Student Leadership Institute, the Leadership Enhancement Series, the Freshman Leadership Council and serves as an instructor in Communication Studies where he teaches in and helps coordinate the Minor in Leadership Studies. Rueben also serves as an Advisor to Alternative Breaks and Rock Chalk Revue. Rueben was named an "Outstanding Educator" in 2001 by the KU chapter of Mortar Board and was the 2004 recipient of the "Citation for Leadership And Service to Students" by the 2004 graduating class.
